Introduction

The CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) consists of one crystal barrel (EB). two crystal endcaps (EE) and two preshower endcaps (SE).

The EE consists of two crystal Endcaps installed in the 4 T magnetic field of the CMS experiment.

Each endcaps is divided into two halves, or "Dees". Each Dee comprises 3622 crystals. There are contained in 138 standard Supercrystals (SC) and 14         special "deconstructed" SC's on  the inner and outer circumference.

The mechanic part of standard SC consists of  a 5x5 array of 25 channels with Lead Tungstate crystals; one inch diameter Vacuum Phototriode (VPT); a 5x5 alveolar unit for crystal/VPT support; back and front inserts and an interfase plate; a housing unit.

                                                                          Regional Centers

The assembly of all EE pieces coming from all over the world will be done in 2 so-called Regional Centers: 1 in Dee lab at CERN and 1 in United Kingdom. The task of these laboratories is to receive and store all the parts, perform quality control check of each entity and finally assemble the various parts in order to build the EE calorimeter.
